The game of football consists of two opposing teams that try to outscore one another by advancing or carrying the football to their own end zones and they do this primarily by way of touchdowns. A touchdown is achieved by a combination of factors.
A football team has a head coach. All players wear helmets and shoulder pads for protection and shoes with cleats for traction on the field.
In the end, the team with the best coach, players and plays win!
There are basically two teams in life, Christian and non-Christian and two end zones in life, good and evil; love and hate.
Jesus said,
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
God’s good plan for the world is salvation and salvation is found in Christ. The devil’s evil plan for the world is destruction so he is always trying to hide Christ from the world.
God wants to advance us to a good end zone; whereas the devil wants to advance us to an evil end zone.
When we accept Christ, we are immediately taken to a good end zone, to live forever in heaven with God, but in this life we have to play regularly; make touchdowns for God. We do this with the strategy Christ taught us, love God with all that is in us and love our neighbor as ourselves. Just as making touchdowns in football takes communication, Christians need to get in a huddle to hear from God regularly.
To help us with the strategy of love, Christ has sent His team a good coach, the Holy Spirit of truth. The Holy Spirit coaches us on how to win in love daily. The Holy Spirit helps us pray in accordance to God’s good will.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:26-29
His team is given spiritual gear.
Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. Ephesians 6:13-18 The Message Bible
When Christians pray, we put ourselves in a position to hear from God and for God to hear from us. We make our requests made known to God and God makes His good plan (will) made known to us.
Pray-ers on God's team. . .win in Christ!
