Joy To The World. . . The World Can’t Give Us True Joy; God Can
First of all, pleasure and joy are two different things. . .two very different things indeed.
Being popular, being rich, being entertained, being attractive, etc… gives us temporary pleasure.
Being in Christ brings us eternal joy.
One of the first messages of the Gospel was about joy. . .
the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great JOY which shall be to all people. Luke 2:10
John the Baptist had JOY in Jesus. Well into his own ministry, he said this of Jesus.
He that has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my JOY therefore is fulfilled. John 3:29
There is a transfer of JOY from God to man, by faith.
Jesus told His disciples about love.
As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in His love. These things have I SPOKEN unto you, that my JOY might remain in you, and that your JOY might be full. John 15:9-11
This JOY is reciprocal and it’s all about love.
The Word is the seed that gives life into the world. We are born again by hearing and believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A love story. . .
God has big love and He always shows it in a big way. There has been a saga of love throughout time that involves every being. Every being is loved by God and has the opportunity to love God back. They love God back by accepting God’s Son. Joy is just one of love’s many benefits.
We know that this world can do a lot of harm to the reputation of love. A lot of the time, what is referred to as love, is not love at all and can be downright selfish and joyless. Inner JOY is obtained by knowing what true love is. . . loving God, loving ourselves and loving one another brings great joy. We can never truly love as we should until we are born again from above by accepting the good news; the gift of salvation, Jesus Christ.
Jesus said.
A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for JOY that a man is born into the world. John 16:21
The angels of God have joy when we repent and receive salvation.
. . .there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. Luke 15:10
Paul wrote.
Now the God of hope fill you with all JOY and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13
There is joy and peace in believing God!
Isaiah the prophet spoke of this salvation long before Jesus Christ arrived on this earth.
Therefore with JOY shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. Isaiah 12:3
And here we have the bride/bridegroom analogy again.
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be JOYFUL in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10
We know the JOY of a bride on her wedding day; a groom is JOYFUL too.
The love of God shared, produces great JOY. It’s not the same kind of JOY we get when we find the perfect pair of shoes or watch our kids excel in sports. It’s greater. . . its eternal.
The world can’t give us true joy, God’s word can. True joy comes from obeying the high command of love given by God Almighty. We can only love with God’s love when we are born again and become God's children in Christ. He can then show us how to love and be loved by the help of His Holy Spirit.
Paul wrote,
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: . . .Galatians 5:22-23
Receive the gift of salvation, call upon the name of the Lord in prayer. . .
. . .whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
