ReALsolutions
New Years is about ringing out the old and ringing in the new.
Here in Nashville, TN we will be having live music, dropping our 15 foot tall music note, enjoying fireworks and dancing in confetti to ring in the New Year. And after we sing Auld Lang Syne, take a cup of kindness for the sake of old times, most of us will make resolutions for the New Year. We may resolve to be healthier, work smarter, love deeper. Some of us will keep our resolutions, but some of us will not.
Some resolutions are not reALsolutions because the only power they have behind them is our power...our will power. Some of us do not have strong enough will power to carry us an entire year! But God does have!
ReALsolutions come from God. Whe we approach our resolutions one day at a time with God, we will be more likely to keep them. Everyday we should pray about them; everyday we should seek God about them.
Most of the things we want to keep are good things anyway and let me tell you, God is an expert at good. God is good and He can teach us how to accomplish the good we want to accomplish in the New Year. When we keep ourselves close to God, we are more apt to keep His word; keep our bodies in subjection; keep peace; keep ourselves pure; keep ourselves from idols, keep ourselves in God's love.
When we commune with God daily throughout the New Year by praying and meditating in His Word, we will be directed day by day; we will receive strength day by day and we will be living a Happy New Day each and every day which will make for a truly Happy New Year. (1 Cor 9:27, Eph 4:3, 1 Tim 5:22, 1 John 2:1-5, 5:21, Jude 1:21)
So every day this New Year let us pray about everything after the manner that Christ taught. We find the prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. Of course, we pray to God from our hearts, but his prayer is like a template. It shows us who to pray to and things to pray about; things that just about cover anything we may be praying about. So let's say we have made a resolution to lose weight. We would pray to our Father in heaven in a respectful way. We would pray that His good will be done in our lives in this earth as it is done in heaven. We would pray about our daily bread (both physical and spiritual) We would ask forgiveness when we need to and we would always be forgiving of others. We would pray that we be not led into temptation but delivered from evil. We would acknowledge that the kingdom, and the power, and the glory is God's forever. Amen.
So let us live out our New Year with God and reALsolutions. God is there for us. God wants to help us. Let's let God help us this year. Happy 2016!!
