Who God is, What God Wants and What God Does
I realize that this blog is a bit long, but don’t let that discourage you from reading it…. it is to prepare us for a big month ahead, May. May is filled with many wonderful things in Nashville like hiking and biking and . . . praying, yes praying!
Spending time in the Word of God and prayer helps us stay aware of
Who God is, what God wants and what God does
We, as a nation, have many National Day’s and May 5 is the National Day of Prayer. There will be many gatherings across our country to honor that day. In Nashville, Tennessee, we will be gathering on that day to pray at the Bridgestone Arena from12:00 pm 1:00 pm

We can be sure that there were lots of prayers prayed for Franklin in his life with a father like his. This is what Billy Graham said about praying….
On Praying for America
Except in emergencies, we never let a day go by but we had Bible reading and prayer. As the children got older, we asked them to participate. When I was home, I went up to tuck them in and to pray with them. Sometimes Ruth would stay up till one or two o’clock if one of them wanted to talk. Some of the greatest conversations I’ve had with any of my children have been late at night.
The same principles and promises we applied to our children are still true for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We pray for each one each day and spend hours each week on the telephone with them. . .
Now back to the blog...The movie War Room helped strengthen my conviction to start up the website, www.nowprayingnashville.com. That movie gave a powerful message about prayer. Prayer is spiritual warfare.
This blog is not as stirring as the movie, with dramatic scenes, good scripts and Miss Clara, but go ahead and trek through it and I believe your prayer life can benefit from reading it.
Now, back to the theme…. Wake-up America. Wake up to what?
As born-again Christians, we should stay aware of God’s will for us. Knowledge of God’s will helps us pray about all things in the manner in which Jesus Christ taught us to pray. . .
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Matthew 6:9-13
Many in the world today are calling evil good, and calling good evil.
When we find out what God’s will is, we find out that God is good.
When we are awake to. . .God is good, we will be wise to. . .the devil’s evil and then can pray God's will.
Staying aware of Who God is, what God wants and what God does is crucial.
The world cannot teach us that, only God can teach us that. God’s will is revealed to us by His Word and by His Son who has sent His Spirit into our hearts to teach us, guide us into God’s TRUTH and cry out to our Father.
Knowledge of God’s Truth is freedom for us.
Truth can deliver us from evil, give us daily bread, keep us in forgiveness, help us through trials and temptations, reveal God’s kingdom, and power, and glory to us. We deprive ourselves and those we love of this abundant life if we stay ignorant of
who God is, what God wants and what God does
When we know this, we will always know what to stand for and what to stand against and not be deceived by the course of this world.
What is likely to happen if a night watchman falls asleep on the job? Bad things can happen, like theft.
We do not want to be sluggish and unaware, allowing the enemy to have a field day with us, robbing from us or the ones we love, of all that God has for us.
We need to watch and whenever we see deception about God’s love in any form, may it be sickness, anxiety, troubles, sinful behavior, etc…we can pray in accordance to God's will.
God’s Word teaches us what God has determined right and wrong, and it should be our weighing device too.
Judgment is getting a bad rap these days. The world thinks of it as bad, but it is good when it is just and we can be sure that. . .God is just.
We think of judgment as. . .pointing a finger at someone.
God pointed a finger, when He wrote the 10 commandments.
And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon Mt. Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God. Exodus 31:18
Jesus Christ pointed a finger to write something on the ground, when the accusers, carrying stones, were asking what to do to the woman who had just committed adultery. Read John 8
They wanted to condemn her; Jesus did not.
We don’t know what Jesus wrote on the ground, but perhaps he wrote down the 2 greatest commandments.
… The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:29-31
Spending time in the Word of God and prayer helps us stay aware of
Who God is, what God wants and what God does
We can’t pray according to God’s will if we don’t know these things.
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1 John 5:14-15
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
So let’s get into our prayer rooms with our Bibles and pray people, pray!
There’s something about having that set apart place to go to and discover God; recover in God.
Get involved with prayer events.
Set a time and place to pray....habitual praying can help us be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s direction.
Peter was routinely praying when he was told to go tell Cornelius and his family and friends about Jesus Christ. Read Acts 10
We should be able to pray on the spot as well.
The apostles were ready to pray on the spot in the name of Jesus whenever they saw ailments or oppressive situations. Acts 3:6, 16:18
So let us be faithfully praying for souls, our nation, our leaders, our churches, our pastors, our missionaries, for healings, for deliverance, for provision, for direction, for protection, through temptations and trials, etc..
And if you cannot think of things to pray about, I will finish this blog with another blog about, amen things.

Jesus Christ prayed in the garden right before His blood was poured out for you and for me.
This is what He prayed....
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Luke 22:42
At Passover, He took the cup and said,
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:20
It's possible that Christ saw, all who would ever receive the cup of communion in remembrance of Him, when He prayed that prayer in the garden, because we were the reason He was there.
